Location: Berlin

First, let me begin by saying that Berlin is incredible. But more on that later.

For the first time in three days I saw blue sky - even if it was only for a few minutes as we blazed our way through the German countryside on an ICE train destined for Berlin. I woke up feeling a bit under the weather (which I think I got from the Stychno seeing as he arrived in Venice sniffling - and we shared the same room for four nights). I actually thought I was going to throw up on the track while waiting for the train in Bad Kreuznach, but 30 minutes after being on the train (and a bottle of Sprite later) I was feeling much better.

My path through Europe has resembled somthing like a giantic squiggly mark, with a line starting in the middle at Paris, moving up to Amsterdam, then back down through Germany and Switzerland, where it bottomed out at Venice, climbing upwards through Austria and ending up with Berlin as the Pinnacle. So far I can easily say I´ve been having an incredible time and really the only thing I have been craving is some mexican food (which Berlin has!)

I got into Berlin yesterday at night, which I personally can´t stand because I can never see anything when it´s dark out (and thus the bearings aren´t there), and booked a room right away, landing at the Circus hostel in the Prenzberg part of town. The place is great - super modern, nice location, awesome desk people (just as the Lonely Planet described). I took the morning to go for a little stroll and grab some breakfast. I was truly impressed at how much Berlin has changed, and I really like the atmosphere and people here. For lunch I paid a relatively exhorbitant 7.50€ ($9.30) to go up the Fernsehturn, Berlin´s tallest structure and dined in the rotating restaurant at the top. I never said I was a starving backpacker, people.

Speaking of food, I forgot to mention in the last post that I ate a German delicacy called Mett. If you´re wondering, it´s raw pork meat and you eat it by spreading on Brötchen. I was actually surprised at how delicious it was, but only ate a little bit of it, wary of the fact that I was eating raw meat. (The Jews in the audience can stop screaming now). I did, however, politely decline the Leberwurst and Blutwurst being reminded of the time I saw somebody cut one open and have what resembled shit pour out of it. (Remember at the Attauns house?)

Back to Berlin, for the afternoon I decided to take a 5 hour walking tour of Berlin, not really knowing what to expect. But wow. It was just great. The guide was really informative, the other people in the group were really friendly, and I learned a ton of new information about Berlin that I had absolutely no idea about. Plus it was the easiest way to see all of the sites with the limited time I have here. Now I know which ones to hit up tomorrow.

As for tonight - I smell mexican food for dinner and possibly some bar hopping. Peace outside people.
